S I K K I M India is well known for 'Unity in Diversity' and it is portrayed in the most fascinating way in Sikkim. Yet we need to ensure adequate education services for each and every child to maintain the cultural identity of the state. The adult literacy rate of Sikkim in 2011 was 82.2 percent: 87.29 percent for males and 76.43 percent for females. In the state, there are a total of 1,157 schools, including 765 state government-operated schools, seven central government schools, and 385 private schools. There is one National Importance Institute, one central university and four private universities providing higher education in Sikkim.
